Personal:

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. After the birth of my son in 2001 my fitness declined to a pathetic level. I have been running regularly since 2002. I currently run about 35 - 40 miles a week.

Ran on the trails around Wheeler Farm.  That's actually a pretty pleasant place to run, nice loops, kind-of a bucolic setting, no cars.   Felt good, finally got my new shoes, and they felt great.

Ran up to the microwave towers on the hills behind Ensign Peak.  The trail was snow packed, and steep in spots.  That was more hill, than I needed, great view from the top though.

I got lost on the way to the Ogden Dee Events Center and was late for the race.  I was literally pinning my number on during the 1st 1000 yds of the race.  This is not an easy course, very very hilly.   There is hardly a flat section.  You hit a hill right off the starting line, then go back up that same hill on the way back at about mile 7.  It was relentless.  I was happy with my performance I finished under 1:20, which is what I wanted to do.  Althought the last uphill at about mile 9.5, truly hurt.  I recovered on the downhill, but slowed way down to do it.   There was a spot at the event center parking lot near the finish where you could short cut and cheat, and I don't know if the guy I got in the sprint with at the finish took it, but he showed up awful quick.  I sprinted him to the finish and he beat me by about 2 feet.   I finished 50th instead of 49th.  Yes a sprint finish for 49th place, that's competition !!!!  It was fun, and I'd do it again.  You got a nice tee shirt, and it was well organized.  I cooled down with two miles back in Salt Lake with the dog.

Well the weather was beautiful...  The course was good.  This wasn't my finest hour.  I should have know better, I didn't feel good going in, and didn't sleep well the night before.  I saw some friends at the start and they had a different race plan than me.  They wanted to go out fast.  I knew that was a bad idea.  I wanted to go out slow and steady.  The beginning of this race is downhill, then you hit some rollers about mile six and nine and ten.  I went out fast and faded at mile 6.   I enjoyed the course and had fun in Moab.   I'd run this again, what a beautiful course. Pretty good time in Moab, but not my finest race.  I think that was close to my slowest 1/2M.  There's always next year.....

Ran with the Salt Lake Track Club at Highland High.  It was a speed workout with some warm-up and cool down.  They said it would be hills, which I would have liked better, never really liked the track.  Did 10 x 800, the pace was about 6:30.  Then I did few laps around Sugarhouse I felt felt great, but I'm still shaking off Saturday's poor performance.  I'll redeem myself next year.  Watched Cinderella Man and read Runner World and feeling much more inspired......

Ran for 2.5 miles with the dog.  The dog got tired, I wasn't all that tired, felt bad and took her home.  My left hip joint was a little tender.

Ran around the Sugarhouse area.  Ran race pace for 6 miles between, 7 to 8 min./ mile.  Warmed up and cooled down 3 miles each.  I was freezing on the way back, didn't dress warm enough, and it started really cooling off as the sun went down.  Felt pretty good the whole way.  Need to keep up it up, and I'll be back in shape again.

Ran up Emigration Canyon and around the U of U.  Ran at a pretty good pace down the canyon about a 7 minute pace.  Felt great the whole way.  Probably should have run another ten in the eve, but never got around to it.

Ran this one slow, a lot of hills in this run. I went through the University over to 11th ave then up the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, and then back down Memory Grove. Ran slow, walked some on the hills, what incredible weather. Looking forward to heading to Cal.

Ran five on the treadmill at "zero-o'clock" in the morning.  It stopped raining about noon and I went the the Mad River Beach and ran down the beach 2 miles in a full gale headwind, coming back was easy.   That is a great run down the beach.
