Personal:

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. After the birth of my son in 2001 my fitness declined to a pathetic level. I have been running regularly since 2002. I currently run about 35 - 40 miles a week.

Ran the Moab Winter Sun 10K. It was pretty cold in Moab, maybe in the 20s at the start, probably the teens, and clear. Paced a friend the first 2.2 miles at about 9:00/mi. At the top of the only little hill in this course, I sped things up to about 6:30/mi. It's a nice course, beautiful red rock cliffs with a dusting of snow on them. It starts of relatively flat or downhill, then there is a short uphill from about mile 2 to 2.25, then mostly flat or down. The last 1/4 mile is a lap around the high school track, which was kind-of cool. There were maybe 250 to 300 people in the race. The winner won in about 33 minutes. I was really sick last Wednesday, and Thursday, so I was kind-of surprised I made it to the race. My cold is still lingering, but it was fun anyway, I like Moab this time of year.

Finally got back out. Been sick as dog for about 2 weeks, flu or some kind of respritory virus. I like running in the cold but this is ridiculous.

Ran Fall Creek Road outside Sawpit, Colorado. I didn't think the high elevation would bother me as much as it did. It was beautiful country.

Race: Beat The New Year (3.1 Miles) 00:23:20

Jogged to Sugarhouse Park for the "Beat the New Year 5K." Then I ran the "Beat the New Year 5K. I beat the new year by about 7 minutes. I enjoyed the race. It was a festive atmosphere. The course is basically 2 and 1/4 laps around Sugarhouse Park in the counter clockwise direction. A group of people tried to cut it as close as possible to midnight, and there was a countdown and sort of a little sprint group. People wore costumes, and one guy ran it in only a speedo and Nikes. It was about 20F. A little chilly for just a speedo and Nikes. The prizes were for the costumes, coldest, fastest, and closest to midnight, and few other categories. The race wasn't timed as far as I know. There was a countdown clock counting down to midnight at the finish line. The race started at 11:30 PM. They gave you a nice long sleeve shirt and a nice little plaque if you beat the new year. It was fun, I'd do it again.
