Jogged to Sugarhouse Park for the "Beat the New Year 5K." Then I ran the "Beat the New Year 5K. I beat the new year by about 7 minutes. I enjoyed the race. It was a festive atmosphere. The course is basically 2 and 1/4 laps around Sugarhouse Park in the counter clockwise direction. A group of people tried to cut it as close as possible to midnight, and there was a countdown and sort of a little sprint group. People wore costumes, and one guy ran it in only a speedo and Nikes. It was about 20F. A little chilly for just a speedo and Nikes. The prizes were for the costumes, coldest, fastest, and closest to midnight, and few other categories. The race wasn't timed as far as I know. There was a countdown clock counting down to midnight at the finish line. The race started at 11:30 PM. They gave you a nice long sleeve shirt and a nice little plaque if you beat the new year. It was fun, I'd do it again. |
