I ran the 1st 5K in the SLC 30K series. The most notable part of the race was the poor air quality, and the temperature, and the fog. The Salt Lake Track Club is a good group of people and the race was fun, I'd do it again. The race starts at Saltair and is an out and back along the I-80 frontage road (old North Temple), it's flat as a pancake out there. Saltair is like a giant rundown barn, perfect place to stage a race. The race started at 10:00 am and it was bone chilling cold. Usually a good view of the lake, but everything was frozen, and foggy really flat light. I never really felt good the whole way, I was cold. I need new racing tights or something, my legs were cold. I was surprised at how fast the leaders were going. I think the winner did it in about 15 minutes, I finished about 22, which was about what I was expecting to do. I'm looking forward to the 10K in 2 weeks. |
