Personal:

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. After the birth of my son in 2001 my fitness declined to a pathetic level. I have been running regularly since 2002. I currently run about 35 - 40 miles a week.

I ran the 1st 5K in the SLC 30K series.  The most notable part of the race was the poor air quality, and the temperature, and the fog.  The Salt Lake Track Club is a good group of people and the race was fun, I'd do it again.  The race starts at Saltair and is an out and back along the I-80 frontage road (old North Temple), it's flat as a pancake out there.  Saltair is like a giant  rundown barn, perfect place to stage a race.  The race started at 10:00 am and it was bone chilling cold.  Usually a good view of the lake, but everything was frozen, and foggy really flat light.  I never really felt good the whole way, I was cold.  I need new racing tights or something, my legs were cold.  I was surprised at how fast the leaders were going. I think the winner did it in about 15 minutes, I finished about 22, which was about what I was expecting to do.   I'm looking forward to the 10K in 2 weeks.

Thanks for encouragement! May I suggest that you wear 2-3 layers on the warm-up and then when take them off right before the race and just wear tights, you will only be cold for about 1 minute of the race because of the increased pace. Also, there is a special material that you can get tights/long sleeves made out of that is slightly thicker and much warmer. I have a stretchy tight long-sleeve from Under Armour made of 64% nylon/22% polyester/14% Elastane that is perfect for wearing as a single layer in anything less than 30 degrees, and too hot for anything warmer.
